Color Palette Builder

Build a palette, check how its colors work together, and download files for your project. No account needed.

Your palette

4 of 8 colors

Use 2–8 colors. Locking protects a color from edits or removal; you can still reorder it.

Palette preview

A place for every color.

This preview uses the first color as text and the second as its background. Select a matrix cell to try another pair.

Contrast matrix

Rows are text colors; columns are backgrounds. Select a cell to see its four AA and AAA text results below.

Pass or fail uses the unrounded ratio. WCAG 2.2 · SC 1.4.3 and 1.4.6 · Opaque sRGB text pairs

Export your palette

Download CSS for color tokens, JSON to reopen the palette, or SVG for a color card. Keep labels, role notes and locks separately; these portable files leave them out.

Import palette or backup

Choose or paste version 1 palette JSON (up to 64 KiB) or a collection backup (up to 256 KiB). Confirm before replacing the workspace. A backup merges saved palettes, replacing entries with matching saved IDs.

Saved on this browser

Save up to 30 palettes in this browser. Download a backup before clearing browser data. If saving is unavailable, you can still edit and export files.

    Start with a palette

Start with Editorial Navy, open another of the twelve original palettes, or edit the swatches to make your own. Give the palette a name you will recognize later.

    Build and check your colors

    • Add, edit or remove colors, keeping between two and eight swatches. Reorder them with the arrow controls.
    • Lock a swatch to protect it from edits or removal. You can still move it in the sequence.
    • Select the matrix cells that match your planned text and background uses.
    • Download CSS, JSON or SVG. Save to the browser collection if you want to return to the palette here.

    Choose an export format

CSS provides ordered variables such as --color-1. JSON keeps the palette name, swatch IDs and exact hex values for re-import. SVG gives you a scalable color card. Keep working labels, locks and role notes separately when using these portable exports.

    Save palettes in this browser

You can save up to thirty palettes in this browser. Browser data removal, private browsing and storage restrictions can make them unavailable, so download a collection backup for work you need to keep. Editing and file export remain available if saving fails.

    Share a set of colors

A share link reopens two to eight hex values. It leaves out the palette name, labels and notes. Use JSON or a collection backup when you need to preserve more than the colors.
